Why MAAM is Valuable Across Europe

Most training in aesthetic medicine is offered by private academies and ends with their own certificate. MAAM is different: it is a university master, awarded by two historic Italian state universities, which makes it one of the most valuable qualifications a doctor or dentist can hold in this field.

Its 120 ECTS credits follow the European standard used by universities in 49 countries, so the qualification is clearly understood by universities, employers and professional bodies across Europe. Qualifications from these universities are recognised under the European framework for academic recognition, the Lisbon Recognition Convention. The right to perform aesthetic procedures remains governed by the medical rules of each country.

About the Programme
Science first, then practice, then anatomy on the cadaver.

The programme is built in two cycles. In each cycle you study online for three months, then spend four days in the clinic applying what you learned. You treat real patients under the supervision of the faculty.

The final module brings everything together in Italy. You work in the cadaver lab at ICLO Verona to see the anatomy you have been injecting, then sit the final examination and graduate in Milan.

Teaching covers facial anatomy, fillers, botulinum toxin, biostimulators and regenerative treatments, thread lifting, lasers and energy-based devices, body contouring, aesthetic gynecology, ultrasound and the management of complications.

  • 9 live online modules of three hours each, with an exam after every module
  • 8 hands-on days on real patients, in two blocks (Istanbul, Milan)
  • 1 day of cadaver dissection at ICLO Verona, Italy
  • 7 clinical cases recorded in your personal logbook
  • 2 days in Milan for the final written examination, case study presentation and graduation ceremony
Why Choose MAAM
  • Intensive and practical. Nine days in person: eight days treating real patients under supervision, in Istanbul or Milan, and one day of cadaver anatomy in Verona.
  • Theory that fits your practice. Online sessions are scheduled so that no clinic days are lost, and every session is recorded.
  • Safety first. Facial anatomy, danger zones and complication management sit at the heart of the programme and are examined to a higher standard.
  • Taught by the best. All teaching is delivered by university professors and international expert trainers.
Examinations and Assignments
  • Module exams. A short online exam after each module, built around clinical cases, danger zones and complications.
  • Practical assessment. Skills are checked during each practical block, which ends with an assessed treatment on a patient.
  • Supervised clinical practice on the doctor's own patients, recorded in a logbook, and a final project consisting of a documented case series, to be submitted before the final examination.
  • Final examination. A final written and practical examination with the University of Camerino in Milan.
    • Written test
    • Oral test
    • Discussion of Thesis (PPT): presentation of the final project (documented case series)

Pass mark 55 (18 out of 30 in the Italian system), with a higher standard of 65 for anatomy and complications. Awarded with distinction, with merit, or as a pass, with feedback and retakes when needed.

What It Means for You
  • Recognition across Europe. A university master with 120 ECTS credits, awarded by two Italian state universities and understood across the 49 countries of the European Higher Education Area.
  • A qualification you can show to patients, employers and regulators.
  • The full range of aesthetic treatments, taught by experts and practised on real patients.

What You Need to Graduate
The aim of this Master is to graduate safe injectors. The rules are the same for every participant, and the standard is higher in the two subjects that protect patients most: anatomy and complications.
  1. Attend the programme — Full attendance at both hands-on blocks and the cadaver lab, and at least 85% of the live online sessions.
  2. Pass the nine online module exams — Each online module ends with an exam. The pass mark is 55 out of 100, which is grade C.
  3. Reach grade B in anatomy and complications — Module 1 (facial anatomy and danger zones) and Module 10 (complications) need 65 or above. A grade C is not enough in these two modules.
  4. Pass both hands-on blocks — In modules 6 and 11 the supervising faculty grade your clinical work on real patients, with safe practice first.
  5. Stay within five C grades — You can hold no more than five C grades across the 12 modules.
  6. Complete your clinical logbook — Seven cases: 2 botulinum toxin, 2 fillers, 1 biostimulator (PLLA or CaHA) and 2 skin boosters or mesotherapy.
  7. Present your case study — You present one case from your logbook in Milan on 21 January 2028.
  8. Pass the final written examination — Held in Milan on 21 January 2028 and covering the whole programme.

When all eight requirements are met, the Master is awarded by the University of Camerino at the graduation ceremony in Milan on 22 January 2028.

Grading Scale
  • A — 85 to 100 · Excellent
  • B+ — 75 to 84 · Very good
  • B — 65 to 74 · Good. Minimum for anatomy and complications
  • C — 55 to 64 · Pass, with a weakness to work on
  • F — Below 55 · Fail. The module is retaken

The five C rule

A grade C is a pass, but it shows a weakness. You can graduate with up to five C grades. If you receive a sixth, you retake a module to improve the grade before you graduate.

Grade B in the two safety modules

Anatomy and complications decide how safely you inject. If you score a C in Module 1 or Module 10, you retake that module to reach grade B.

If you fail a module

An F means you retake only that module, not the programme. Your first online retake is free of charge. A second online retake, and any retake of a practical module, is charged.

Who Can Apply

The programme is open to graduates in medicine or dentistry. You will be asked to provide your graduation certificate when you register.

Participants are responsible for arranging their own visa for the in-person modules.

Students must have computer and Internet skills in order to follow courses in the mode and interactive e-learning, and a multimedia PC with broadband connection for the ICT interactive activities.

You must attach a copy of your graduation certificate to your registration form. No place is confirmed without it. 1.2 You must hold a valid licence to practise and give the licence number and issuing authority on the registration form. 1.3 IAAI or the university may ask at any time for the original certificate or a certified English translation. You provide it at your own cost. 1.4 The programme is taught, assessed and examined in English only. Your English must be at level B2 or above. IAAI may ask for evidence of your English or for a short interview before confirming your place. 1.5 Registration has four steps. First, you download the Student consent and enrolment declaration from this page, read it, initial each section and sign it. Second, you submit the registration form with your graduation certificate and the signed declaration. Third, IAAI reviews your application and confirms it in writing. Fourth, you pay the registration fee. 1.6 Your place is confirmed only when IAAI has received both the signed declaration and the registration fee. They are given in the order in which signed declarations and registration fees are received. 1.8 Admission is decided by IAAI and the partner university. The decision is final. 1.9 If any document or statement you give is found to be false, at any time, IAAI may cancel your registration and withdraw you from the programme without refund. 1.10 Your place is personal to you. After that there is no refund for any reason, including a visa refusal. • You are responsible for your own visa, travel, accommodation and insurance. • The programme is taught and examined in English only. • Paying the fees does not guarantee a pass. The Master is an academic award and not a licence to practise. By submitting the registration form and paying the registration fee, you confirm that you have read and accepted these policies.

After that your registration ends without refund.

Rescheduling Policy

Changes you ask for 4.1 You may ask once, in writing, to move to a later intake. A transfer depends on available places and on the costs IAAI has already paid for your place, which you must pay. Fees you have paid are carried to the later intake and are not refunded. If the fee for the later intake is higher, you pay the difference. 4.2 Practical blocks and the cadaver laboratory run on fixed dates. You cannot move a single block to another date, except as set out in the next two points. 4.3 If you cannot attend a block because of a visa refusal or delay, and you send IAAI the written proof before the block starts, you may ask to move to the next available block or intake. IAAI decides the request, and you pay any cost IAAI has already paid for your place. 4.4 If you cannot attend a block because of serious illness or the death of a close family member, and you send written evidence within 7 days, IAAI may at its discretion move you to the next available block. 4.5 A practical or cadaver day you miss for any other reason is repeated on the next date set by IAAI, at your cost. You also pay your own travel, accommodation and visa costs. 4.6 Missing an examination without a reason accepted in writing by IAAI counts as a fail. A retake is offered on the next available date set by IAAI. Changes made by IAAI 4.7 IAAI may change dates, venues or faculty for good reason and will tell you as early as possible. A change of date, venue or faculty is not a ground for a refund. 4.8 IAAI is not liable for your travel or accommodation costs if dates change. Book refundable or changeable tickets. 4.9 If an event outside IAAI's control prevents a module from running as planned, IAAI may postpone it, move it to another venue or deliver it online. No refund is due where the module is delivered at a later date.

Special Accommodations

5.1 Tell IAAI in writing when you register, and no later than 30 days before a practical block, if you have a disability, a health condition or another need that affects how you take part. 5.2 IAAI will make reasonable adjustments where it can do so safely. Requests made late may not be possible to meet. 5.3 An adjustment does not change the pass standard, the content of an assessment, the attendance rules or any clinical safety requirement. 5.4 Extra examination time or any other examination arrangement is given only on supporting documents and only if agreed in writing before the examination. It is not granted afterwards. 5.5 No translation, interpreter or translated examination paper is provided. Difficulty with English is not a ground for extra time, a free retake, a refund or an appeal. 5.6 You must be fit to take part in clinical training. Tell the faculty immediately about any condition that could affect the safety of models, of other participants or of yourself. IAAI may stop you treating models where it judges this necessary for safety.

Terms & Conditions

6.1 Results. Paying the fees does not guarantee a pass or a certificate. Your result depends only on your own performance, as judged by the faculty and the Medical Director. Academic and clinical judgement is final. An appeal is accepted only for a procedural error and only within 14 days of the result. 6.2 Retakes. You retake only the module you failed. The first and second retakes of an online module examination are free. All other retakes are charged as set out in the fee schedule, and you pay your own travel, accommodation and visa costs. If you fail the same module after two retakes, IAAI may withdraw you from the programme without refund. 6.3 Attendance. Attendance at practical and cadaver blocks is required in full, on every day. Attendance of at least 85% is required at live online sessions. 6.4 Academic honesty. Online examinations are sat alone and without help. Cheating, plagiarism, impersonation or a false logbook entry results in a fail and may result in withdrawal without refund. 6.5 Conduct. You must behave professionally towards models, faculty, staff and other participants and keep all patient information confidential. IAAI may remove you from a session for unsafe or unprofessional conduct, without refund. 6.6 Visa and travel. You alone are responsible for obtaining, at your own cost and in good time, every visa and entry permit you need. An enrolment or invitation letter from IAAI does not guarantee a visa. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after each travel date. 6.7 Insurance. For every block outside your country of residence you must hold travel medical insurance covering emergency treatment and repatriation. You must also hold the professional indemnity insurance your country of practice requires. If you arrive without valid insurance, IAAI may refuse you entry to the block. The block then counts as missed and is repeated at your cost. 6.8 The award. The Master is an academic award. It is not a licence to practise and gives no right to perform any procedure in any country. You are responsible for checking what the law of your country allows and whether the award is recognised there. IAAI gives no guarantee of recognition or equivalence. 6.9 Certificate. The certificate is issued only when you have passed every assessment, completed the logbook, met the attendance rules and paid all fees. 6.10 Liability. You attend the practical and cadaver blocks at your own risk. IAAI is not liable for illness, injury or loss of your belongings, and its total liability to you is limited to the fees you have paid, except where the law does not allow liability to be excluded or limited. 6.11 Teaching materials. All teaching materials belong to IAAI and its faculty. You may not record, copy or share them. 6.12 Recordings and personal data. Online sessions may be recorded for teaching and quality purposes. IAAI uses your personal data to run the programme and shares it with the partner universities, the cadaver laboratory and examiners where needed for enrolment, assessment and certification. 6.13 Photographs. You may not photograph or film models, patients or other participants without the permission of the faculty and the person concerned. No photographs or recordings are allowed in the cadaver laboratory. 6.14 Governing law. These policies and your enrolment agreement are governed by the laws of England and Wales. 6.15 Changes to these policies. IAAI may update these policies for future intakes. The version in force on the date you sign your declaration is the one that applies to you. 6.16 Data protection. The personal data provided by candidates and members with the application form will be processed in compliance with the principles set forth in Legislative Decree no. 196 of 30 June 2003, "Personal Data Protection Code," and the GDPR (EU Regulation 2016/679).
